I’ve been meaning to mention this for ages, so thanks to Fay Lee for chivvying me along to mention the amazing Bradworthy teacher, Sadie Davies, who plans to be the first woman to swim to Lundy. Go Sadie! On her Facebook page from which the photos are taken, she writes:
I will be swimming from Hartland Point to Lundy Island later this month for two reasons. My aim is to heighten awareness of the plastic pollution crisis we face whilst raising money for three of my favourite charities, Surfers Against Sewage, Wave Project and Families In Grief.
I am currently in training for my swim; although it is 12 miles from Hartland Point to Lundy it is likely to be over 16 miles with wind and tides. That means there have been very early starts for pool training before drying off and teaching at a local school, as well as many hours in the sea building up strength and stamina for my adventure.
Surfers Against Sewage are one of three charities who will be financially benefiting. Being a Community Leader for Bideford, I have seen the positive impact the Plastic Free Communities campaign has had.
The Wave Project’s surf therapy programme is proven to help young people feel less anxious and more positive. As a school teacher, I am very aware of the value offered by the Wave Project to our younger generation.
Families in Grief is a small Bideford based charity that supports grieving children, young people and their families who have experienced the death of someone close to them.
These three charities are close to my heart. Although very different in what they do, they each bring something positive to our community and support the lives and environment of those they work with.
I am looking for both donations and sponsorship.
If you are an individual and would like to donate, please visit https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fund…/showROFundraiserPage…
Up to now, agreed sponsorship and support has been received from Atlantic Spirit – (www.atlantic-spirit.co.uk), Refuse & ReUse (www.refuseandreuse.co.uk). If your business would like to join Sadie Swims Lundy as a sponsor, please either message me on here or email sponsorship @sadieswimslundy.co.uk.
If you want to follow my adventure and learn more about the charities I am supporting, please like my Facebook page and give my Instagram account a follow too!
Finally, please feel free to share this post across all your social media channels. The more awareness of the plastic pollution crisis I can create and the more money I can raise will help this adventure be the success I want it to be.
