North Devon Council run car parks in coastal areas will be chargeable again from this weekend after the easing of the lockdown restrictions has led to more people visiting local beauty spots.
Charges in the NDC car parks in Croyde, Hele, Mortehoe and Ilfracombe will start from Saturday 23 May in response to concerns amongst local residents that free car parking in coastal areas is acting as a draw to tourists coming in from outside the area. To avoid the risk of infection, the machines will not be taking cash and customers are advised to use the RingGo system or contactless payment card to pay. RingGo is available:
- online at www.myringgo.co.uk
- on the RingGo app
- by calling 020 3046 0010
- by using the RingGo ‘text to park’ service
There will be no 20p admin fee usually applied to RingGo transactions.
Payment can be made in advance or at the time and can be ‘topped’ up at any time without having to return to the vehicle. Each car park has a unique code that is needed to pay for the parking. The car parks opening this weekend, along with their codes are:
- Croyde – 3628
- Hele – 3637
- Mortehoe – 3638
- Hillsborough – 3636
- Jubilee Gardens – 3629
- Jubilee Gardens Museum – 3611
- Larkstone Lane – 3630
- Marine Drive – 3631
- Oxford Grove – 3632
- Pier – 3633
- Wilder Road – 3634
Credit or debit card payments have a minimum spend of £3.30 and so are only really suitable for stays of three hours or longer so for short stays of 1-2 hours, RingGo is the best option.
Payment cards also require the use of buttons to choose the length of parking and/or to enter a pin if their card isn’t contactless.
