Three fire appliances from Holsworthy, Torrington and Hatherleigh were mobilised this morning, following a call from the occupant of a property saying their porch was on fire and the bedroom above was full smoke. Luckily all occupants were able to safely evacuate prior to the arrival of the firefighters. The incident was reported at around 5.50am this morning.
Although it had radiated into and through a beam, crews worked well to prevent the fire, which started on the porch roof of the 2 storey farm house, from spreading any further into the house.
Small tools and a hose reel jet were used to cut away and extinguish the fire, as well as a 3 thermal imaging cameras to monitor for fire spread and hotspots. Once crews were satisfied that the fire was fully extinguished and the area made safe, the incident was confirmed as under control at 08:07 hrs.
Damage was confined to the porch and beam only, there were no casualties, and the fire started accidentally.
