Be aware of suspicious circumstances

From Devon & Corwnall Police alerts:

On Monday 11 October, a man with an Irish accent called uninvited at a home in the Northam area, near Bideford.

The man spoke with the householder saying that he had recently purchased a campervan from a neighbour and had noticed the occupier had one and asked if it was for sale. He was told that it was not, and the man left.

He was described as being a white man, aged in his late 30s to early 40s, very smartly dressed, and driving a grey Land Rover Discovery.

We would like to warn any person approached to sell a motor home, car or motorcycle by an unsolicited person to be aware that even if a sale is made, it is more than likely that the purchaser will return complaining of “multiple unmentioned faults” at the time of sale and then pressurise the seller into selling at a much lower price. Owners are strongly advised not to enter into any sale agreement with unknown persons.

If you see anyone acting suspiciously in the area, have concerns, or have any information please phone 101 or email 101@dc.police.uk

Please phone 999 if immediate/or a crime is taking place.

Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or reporting online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org
