A person was injured in yesterday afternoon’s crash on the A39 near Meddon between Welcombe campsite and The West Country Inn, which blocked the road in both directions.
The single-vehicle collision happened at around 4.50 pm. The air ambulance was requested but was unable to fly due to the cloud. The fire service attended as 2 people were trapped inside the vehicle.
Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment and small tools to remove the roof and boot of the vehicle in order to extricate both of the casualties with the assistance of ambulance crews. The vehicle was made safe by fire crews and both casualties were left in the care of the ambulance service. Fortunately, the injuries were not as bad as first thought, but one person was taken to hospital.
The road was re-opened shortly after 8 pm.
