Devastating fire at Elements Hotel

Multiple calls were received to a fire at Elements Hotel, Marine Drive, Widemouth, starting from 1.20 am this morning.  Two appliances from Bude were immediately mobilised, along with a whole time officer for support. Two further appliances were then mobilised from Holsworthy and Delabole.

Crews confirmed the hotel with a rear kitchen area was well alight and the roof space was involved. More back up was needed from other crews. Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service is being assisted by colleagues from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service due to the location of the incident.

By 6 am, the blaze was under control. Everyone is, thankfully, both guests and staff, were confirmed safe and well and crews continue to remain on scene. Please avoid the area to allow crews to continue to operate. Road closures are now in place in the vicinity of the hotel.

Sectors remain in place with crews firefighting hot spots. Evacuated people have been given alternative accommodation.

There was an outpouring of local support on the Elements Facebook page for Jamie and his team following this traumatic event. A difficult year already, this must feel devastating. Elements has long been a favourite with locals and visitors alike.

General Manager, Jamie, said on FB:

To all my friends and people of Bude and further afield , Elements Bude was destroyed but a catastrophic fire; with the help of our heroic caretaker and the local fire services, all our guests got out of the building safely . I want to say thank you to everyone for their messages and all the support; it means so much .
I will try and be in contact soon and all my love to all of you. He vowed “we will come back bigger and stronger than before”.

Our thoughts go out to Jamie and his team.
