On Wednesday 19 October 2016 the Alliance Operations Roads Policing Team for Devon and Cornwall, and Dorset Police received a report that a video had been posted on a public forum which showed a lorry driving dangerously on the A30 at Chiverton Cross roundabout near Truro, Cornwall.
The footage was captured on a member of the public’s dash camera and had not been reported to the police directly.
The footage showed a heavy goods vehicle drawing a trailer driving the wrong way on the roundabout and in affect performing a ‘U’ turn. This manoeuvre was undertaken during peak morning rush hour traffic and could have resulted in a serious road traffic collision. The police were able to identify the heavy goods vehicle from its markings and the driver was identified, interviewed and reported for dangerous driving.
On 27 February 2017 the driver of the heavy goods vehicle pleaded guilty at Truro magistrates court to dangerous driving and was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 18 months and received fines and costs totalling just over one thousand pounds.
