Currently ‘free’ membership to Bude branch of the RNA

By Bob Gelder:

It will come as little surprise to both “shipmates” or the general public, that this Branch of the Royal Naval Association (R.N.A.) is currently in “dry dock”.

The first Thursday of every month would normally witness and welcome a Branch Meeting at The Falcon Hotel (19.00 for 19.30) but that is now on the back burner.  This is not only to comply with national Tier conditions – but also to respect the staff at The Falcon and to protect each other.

However, that does not stop “recruitment”!    Currently, it is on the table for the R.N.A. to discontinue national membership fees and to become ‘voluntary’ for donations.    Effectively, this means “FREE” membership.

We effectively have two levels of membership:
  • Full – those who have been or are, serving R.N., R.M. personnel
  • Associate – either serving or previously Army or RAF personnel, or indeed members of the public who have not served within the armed forces but have the aims and ambitions of the R.N. at heart.
We currently are a Branch of 50 – but we have a venue with numerous “spare chairs” available – and would warmly welcome you to join us at a future meeting.
Yes, we do enjoy a convivial glass with colleagues – but this Branch is not a boozing club.
Monthly “costs” are minimal and voluntary.
Dress: relaxed/casual.   Subject to current restrictions on the night.
Parking is available in Crescent Car Park (free, from 18.00).
This first submission to B&B is designed to ‘float our boat’ as it were – we’ve been in existence for over 30 years and in normal times (remember them?) would have been prominent within the November Sunday Parade on the Strand.
In order to ‘sign up’ simply email: bobgelder1@gmail.com or ‘phone your name/tel no. to Bob (Hon. Secretary) 01409-253791.
I’ll endeavour to provide a monthly up-date of Branch activities to keep you ‘in the loop’ of what we are doing.
One final request ladies and gentlemen: please adhere to the current Covid conditions imposed and remember to respect all others by wearing that mask!
