Cross Country rail disruption today and New Year’s Eve

Customers are advised not to travel by Cross Country trains as widespread disruption to services over the festive period is expected due to planned strike action by the RMT (The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers).

Disruption is to be expected today, on Christmas Eve, and New Year’s Eve meaning a very limited timetable.

24th December

CrossCountry will run a reduced service between

  • Edinburgh and Plymouth
  • Manchester Piccadilly and Bournemouth
  • Birmingham New Street and Leicester

CrossCountry will not run any services between

  • Aberdeen and Edinburgh
  • Glasgow Central and Edinburgh
  • Derby and Nottingham
  • Leicester and Stansted Airport (a bus replacement runs between Leicester and Peterborough)
  • Cheltenham Spa and Cardiff Central
  • Newton Abbot and Paignton
  • Plymouth and Penzance

If your service is cancelled, your Advance ticket is valid for an alternative CrossCountry service.  You will not need to amend your ticket.

There is ticket acceptance with other train operators which allows customers with Advance Purchase tickets for our cancelled services to travel with an alternative operator where required.
