Crime updates from Devon & Cornwall Police

It’s been a busy weekend for Devon & Cornwall Police with, among more serious crimes, public disorder, serious assault and rape to investigate.

Bodmin

Police are appealing for witnesses, dashcam and CCTV footage, of late-night public disorder in Bodmin town centre.

A group of around 10 – 20 males and females had gathered in the Fore Street area of the town, from around 11.30pm on Saturday 18 July to around 1am on Sunday 19 July, when violent altercations are reported to have broken out.

Police are investigating after a 46-year-old man from the town was assaulted at around 1am on Fore Street.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed, or have dashcam footage, of the incident, or has CCTV footage of the area around the time it occurred.

Police are also investigating a report that a man had been stabbed in the area of the junction of Dennison and Berrycombe Road, Bodmin, at around 11.30pm.

A 19-year-old man from Bodmin was taken to hospital in an ambulance for treatment for suspected multiple stab wounds.

A police dog unit conducted a search of the area and a 20-year-old man and a 22-year-old man, both from Bodmin, were located and arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent and bailed until 13th August pending further enquiries.

Perranporth

Police are appealing for witnesses and mobile phone footage after a 14-year-old boy was attacked with a bottle on Perranporth beach.

The incident occurred at around 6pm on Friday 17 July in the area of the rock pools.

The boy was attacked after confronting a member of a group – consisting of at least two men and three women, drinking whisky – after he threw a plastic cup into a rock pool.

Then, one of the women and two of the men assaulted the boy causing a laceration to his head and ear which required 11 stitches.

The group are described as having London accents.

The man who smashed the whisky bottle on the boy’s head is described as being a white male, around 20 years of age, with blond hair, of stocky build and around 5’9” in height. He was wearing a black t-shirt and black shorts.

The other offender, who hit the boy after he’d been hit with the bottle, is described as being of slim build, around 5’7” in height and wearing a light blue top.

Police are appealing for anyone who may be able to help identify the offenders, including mobile phone, dashcam or CCTV footage of the area at the time, to get in touch.

Plymouth

Police are investigating the rape of a woman at Plymouth Hoe which occurred at around 3am on Sunday 12 July.

Police would particularly like to speak to the woman who approached the victim to enquire about her welfare.

A 24-year-old man from Emsworth, Hampshire, and a 22-year-old man from Plymouth, have been arrested on suspicion of rape and released on bail until Monday 10 August.
