Covid update for SW

It’s been a while since I’ve looked, but the interactive map shows a number of areas within Cornwall with high Covid case rates: Perranporth and Goonhavern, St Agnes and that stretch of coastal area, for example. Pool and Illogan had a case rate of 1,079.5 per 100,000 people in the week to 28th September. Roche and Goss Moor was also high.

Closer to home, Camelford and Tresmeer had a rate of 403.2 for the same period, and Launceston 406.6. Holsworthy, Bradworthy and Welcombe sat at 464.7, with areas like Barnstaple similar, and Okehampton higher.

Bude & Stratton had 33 cases, a rate of 311.4, while Poundstock and Kilkhampton had a rate of 328.3.

There are swathes of the country with high case rates. Numbers in our immediate area remain below average. However, Cornwall’s Covid infection rate as a whole is now 16% higher than the national average.

People tested positive in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly in the 7 days to 3rd October numbered 2,599, with 7 deaths recorded. 8 people were admitted to North Devon Healthcare Trust with Covid in the week to 26th September.

The R value in the SW is 0.8-1.1 range.
