Covid update for our area

The interactive map is looking so much better these days as Covid numbers fall, and vaccination numbers rise.

All areas in our immediate vicinity in Cornwall and Devon have fewer than 3 cases, so the data is suppressed.  As of 1st March, Devon was down to 178 cases overall, and Cornwall down to 95. Torridge area had 8 cases in total. So, numbers are in sharp decline down here in the SW, for now.

Up to and including 5th March, vaccination numbers for England are as follows:

First dose: 18,491,771

Second dose: 766,500

Estimated R number for the healthcare region of South West

0.6 to 0.8 with a daily infection growth rate range of -8% to -5% as of 5 March 2021.

In the last 7 days to 6th March, 68 people tested positive in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.  9 deaths were recorded, and 3 patients were admitted to North Devon Healthcare.

Professor Sir Ian Diamond, Head of the Office for National Statistics (ONS) is reported to have said:

“I think this lockdown has been a success but at the same time, while we have seen major reductions, we are still relatively high. I’m in very much the view that we should do everything we can not to blow it nationally.

“We have done fantastically well in the last couple of months but we are not completely out of the woods yet.”
