A gorse fire at Bartinney Downs has devastated the area.
The fire was reported by multiple people yesterday morning. Firefighters confirmed a fire front of approximately 200 metres, which they were tackling with beaters.
The BBC reported that Cornwall Wildlife Trust said many animals had perished in the fire:
Many animals were killed in the blaze at Caer Bran near St Just in Cornwall
Callum Deveney, head of nature reserves, said the fire, which follows another at a reserve in February, had hit many animals in breeding season.
“This one is worse because it’s when wildlife is coming alive,” he said.
“At this time of year a fire like this is devastating.
Crews from St. Just, Penzance, St. Ives, Perranporth and Helston attended the fire which was fanned by strong winds. They used high pressure hose reel jets and main jets to put out the fire.
