A film and raffle charity fundraising event which recently took place at the Bay View Inn in Widemouth is being investigated by the Police and Action Fraud, amidst claims that the £10 a ticket raffle never took place, and that it was a scam.
It looked like it would be a great event, and indeed we promoted it on this page in good faith.
Checking the Facebook page of the cinema company, nothing is now there pertaining to this, so we wait to see what happened.
Meanwhile, on their Facebook page, the Bay View has commented:
Following police and legal advice we have not been in a position until now to put forward a statement.
Firstly, a huge thanks to all those (customers/staff and suppliers) who supported our first outdoor cinema event. Our direct contribution to this event included the cinema screen hire, licence for the films, food, beverages, additional car parking and toilet facilities. Another company agreed to independently run the engagement, coordination, delivery and all associated costs to do with the charities, raffle, live music, fashion/talent and fireworks. We have been let down by the other company and sadly have now referred this to the police and Action Fraud for further investigation.
We – the owners – made an error in judgement to work with the company and we sincerely regret the course of actions which subsequently followed and we would like to personally apologise to all those affected. We have done all we can at this stage with the police and Action Fraud, but for all those affected, we would encourage you to make contact with them.
We have personally apologised to both charities caught up in this and although no profit was made from the event we have made an initial £100 donation to each. We will continue supporting both charities throughout the year.
Lastly, we’d like to offer a personal thank you to all the customers who have contacted us directly to offer their support since Sunday and a massive thanks to our work colleagues for their ongoing support and loyalty.
This will be our only statement on this matter whilst investigations continue.
