Bude Coastguard Rescue Team was paged on Friday afternoon. The team was called to Summerleaze Beach to a report of an 89-year-old female with a suspected broken hip, having fallen whilst walking.
The woman concerned was on the beach just beyond the lock gates.
With first aid having already been given by Bude RNLI Lifeguards, but the tide was rapidly coming in, so the priority was to carefully manoeuvre and secure the casualty onto the alpine stretcher while waiting for the paramedics away from the water’s edge.
The casualty was assessed by paramedics and taken to North Devon District Hospital.
