Candidate for Bude-Stratton Town Council – Philippa Purchase

In another of our series of campaign statements by people running for election, we today have one from a Town Council Candidate. Philippa is standing for Bude ward as an independent member of the Bude-Stratton Community Alliance:

I live in Bude and I think it is a really special place – beautiful, friendly, community-minded – but with some special challenges including remoteness, vulnerability to sea level rise and the shortage of public services. I am standing as an independent under Bude-Stratton Community Alliance as I would like to work with the community to help Bude to tackle these issues.

I am involved with a number of community organisations – Friends of the Earth, the Refill Shop and Transition Bude. I have taken part in beach cleans, litter picks and gardening in the Crescent car park and the Community Orchard. Over the past year I’ve been a public representative on the Climate Change and Environment Committee and have contributed to the Town Council Climate Change Plan.

I believe that the Town Council should welcome public participation and that we would all benefit from harnessing the experience and expertise we have within our community.
