Cancelled – Bude’s Christmas day swim

What has become a Bude institution has today been cancelled due to Covid-19. We are all sad about this but surely in total agreement with the decision.

Bude Surf Life Saving Club announced:

We are absolutely gutted to announce that there will be no Christmas Day Swim this year.
Our committee has tried to come up with different ways that we can host the event but with last years record numbers there is no way we can make the swim ‘Covid safe’. The safety of our members, families and community is our priority and due to the current situation there is no way we can guarantee this.
Many outdoor events have been cancelled and instead virtual events have been held. This is not something we are NOT promoting or encouraging you to do. The Christmas Day Swim has full lifeguard and first aid cover; there will be NO lifeguards on the beach on Christmas Day so we strongly advise that you do not go in the sea ⛄️
We are so sad this won’t be happening as we know it’s a tradition for many peoples Christmas Day. This event is also the biggest fundraiser for the club. We have got some fundraising plans in the pipeline so watch this space…
It’s been a different year to say the least, but we will get through it. As ever thank you so much for the continued support for the club, we can’t tell you how much we appreciate it 🌟
The Christmas Day swim will be back in 2021 and will be bigger and better than ever 🎅🏾
