Budehaven students chose to support local people at Christmas

Budehaven year 7 students were involved in some fantastic local fundraising initiatives during December.  Their focus was to think of others and support local people at a time which can be difficult for many.

During November, the students collected and wrapped shoe boxes after filling them with lovely gifts for local care and residential homes, as well as the local food bank.

Year 7 students, form tutors and the head of year visited Abbeyfield, Trelana, Red Gables and Eventide, who all received gifts for their residents. Year 7s chatted away easily with residents and staff, as well as singing carols!

Year 7 girls were also involved in raising money for ‘Talan’s Trust’ and ‘Clic Sargent’ by taking part in the organised sponsored swim at Splash Leisure Pool during their timetabled swimming lesson on Friday 15th December.

They swam 3 ½ miles during our 30minute lesson, rewarded by buying cakes afterwards!

Head of Year, Mel Bardsley, says:

“I am immensely proud of the effort that year 7s at Budehaven have made in 2017 with both the Christmas shoe box appeal and sponsored swim. We have a very caring, thoughtful and hard-working group of students who wanted to make a difference to local people. From the happy looks on many of the residents’ faces on our visits they certainly achieved this”.
