By Rachel Miller (Joint leader of learning: Art) at Budehaven:
It was wild and wet on the coastal path between Crooklets and Summerleaze, but Budehaven’s flags really brought the sunshine into the space and were fantastic beacons for The Reflects Art and Minds event.
The evening event at Bude Sea Pool was magical and thought-provoking despite the weather. It was lovely to see the exhibition of Y9 sketchbooks in one of the beach huts alongside the amazing large scale sound and light projections, created by internationally acclaimed artist Ulf Pedersen.
REFLECT’s aim was to bring people together to discuss their own life experiences and connections to the coast. I feel working with the Reflect team, pupils here at Budehaven and our inspiring artist Tony Minnion, definitely was successful in offering us the time, space and reflection to understand our own relationship with the Sea. It also enabled us to appreciate the power and beauty Art has, bringing us closer to an understanding of ourselves and others while realising the positive impact we can have on our local environment.
