A new move forward tomorrow as shops are allowed to open again, so is shopping on your list?
Bude centre will once again come to life, although with social distancing and one way pedestrian systems, it will be quite different to what we are used to.
However, local businesses need your help, your footfall and yes, your spend, so please help them wherever you can. This is just a small selection of info gleaned from Facebook pages. If anyone wants to add details of their business in the comments, please do so …
Here’s what a few local businesses are saying:
We are thrilled to be able to welcome you back to our stores!
All departments in Bude (except Coffee Shop), Wadebridge and Launceston will be open from 15th June and we would love to see you.
All stores will be open 10am-3pm, Monday to Saturday (closed Thursday).
As always the health and safety of all our customers and staff is our highest priority, the measures that we have trialled in our Cook department over the last 2 weeks have proved effective and met with universal approval by customers. We will be maintaining the hand sanitising, distancing, regular cleaning, and zero contact till protocols already established and in the Bude store we will be adding in a one way system with the Ladies fashion (top) door being the entrance to the whole store.
Starting from Tuesday next week (16th June) you can enjoy a selection of our top selling homemade cakes, scones and savouries to take home (or picnic with!). These will be situated in the Cook area near the till.
We’re working towards reopening all of our stores on Monday 15th of June, making sure they’re thoroughly cleaned prior to reopening.
We’ve also introduced new measures to keep our staff and customers safe, including more frequent cleaning, sanitising chip and pin pads after every use and frequent cleaning of common touch points and surfaces in store.
Bellini’s has effectively become a delicatessen for now and has been operating very successfully selling fantastic produce from some great Cornish. You can order and collect or pop by and see what’s available. They are stocking ready-meals created by The Surfin’ Frog, too.
The bookshop and stationer’s will also re-open at 9:30am tomorrow. Spencer Thorn has been helping the fine people of Bude read for over 50 years and we’re so PROUD to be back where we belong, safely serving our community and bringing happy treats to our beautiful town.
Hopefully, for those who asked, you will now be able to buy (or order) my new book locally at last.
We have introduced a hand sanitising station as you enter the shop and are limiting customers to 3 at any one time. We have reconfigured the layout and displays to make it as easy as possible.
Our temporary opening hours are 10-3 daily and closing on Wednesday. Please bear with us as we adjust to the new shopping experience. Together we will all get there! We also want to take this opportunity in thanking each and every key worker and member of our NHS in all you have done and are doing 🌈 . Stay safe everyone and hope to see you soon 💎

Costume Rooms – The Strand
The shop’s in a mess lol as we’ve pulled everything out and are having a good clean -so that must mean only one thing: we’re re-opening Monday!
We have missed all of you – you lovely people – and for all of your’s safety we will be putting into place the following guidelines.
– We will have a hand gel area for you guys to be able to clean your hands as you enter. We will be cleaning the shop’s surfaces after each customer. We will be asking for there to be a maximum of 2 people in the shop at any one time. We have plenty of space out the front of the shop for a queue due to The Carriers Inn being closed and the rest of the shops next to us being solicitors or evening take-away places so no problem there. We understand that there will be a pedestrian route around the town so please be aware of that system. We also are happy to serve customers at the door if they feel more comfortable doing this – please either let us know from the doorway or msg us and we can be prepared for you. And we will be requesting our lovely customers to remember the 2 metre distance rule We will wear ask each customer as they enter if they would like us to wear a mask.
Meanwhile, taxis such as Trev’s are still operating (in his case with a perspex safety screen in place).
