Bude summer events cancelled

Bude Lifeboat Day and Bude Carnival are both cancelled for 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Planning for mass public events takes time, usually starting many months before, which is not possible this year.

On their Facebook page, Bude Lifeboat gave a statement from Lucy Ashton, RNLI Regional Engagement Lead:

‘Our wonderful and committed fundraising volunteers in Bude are bitterly disappointed to have had to make the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Bude Lifeboat Weekend. The August Bank Holiday weekend extravaganza has been a big part of local and visitors summer calendar for many years.
It was not a decision that was made lightly, but we needed to consider the level of organisation and volunteer hours it takes to put on, with the planning starting as early as January, as well as the financial supported needed to create such a spectacular weekend of activity, including booking bands, marquees and fireworks, all of which need payment in advance. While we are looking forward to the slow easing out of restrictions, the ongoing safety of our volunteers and the public is our main priority, we are also cautious of any changes to the Government’s roadmap that would mean cancellations and the risk of losing of large sums of money and our volunteers’ time.
We thank everyone for their support and look forward to 2022, when we’re hopeful that we will see a summer of relative normality and an even bigger and better Bude Lifeboat Weekend. Meanwhile our volunteers are looking ahead to the re-opening of Bude’s RNLI shop, supporting our lifeguards on the beach and focussing on the RNLI Cornwall Virtual Challenge, in which participants can sign up to run, walk or cycle the distance between all our Cornish lifeboat stations’ https://www.justgiving.com/…/Cornwall-RNLI-Virtual…
Meanwhile, the much-loved Bude Carnival is also postponed until August, 2022.
If you hear of any other summer events that are cancelled, please let us know in the comments.
