Here is our next candidate for election to Bude & Stratton Town Council. Today is the turn of Kevin Wells.
My name is Kevin Wells I’m a Chartered Electrical & Electronic Engineer with over 25 years’ experience in the industry, who is presently having a career break. I took voluntary redundancy a few years ago to follow a lifelong ambition of moving to North Cornwall, specifically Bude, to enjoy the Cornish way of life and all that this beautiful county has to offer.
I live locally with my partner and two jet black rescue cats.
Since moving here, I have been volunteering with Transition Bude (Reimagining Our Communities). I have volunteered time working with a group of like-minded people on how to deliver the climate emergency that was declared by Bude-Stratton Town Council in September 2019. I have participated and enjoyed the two-minute beach clean as part of the 2 Minute Foundation set up by Martin Dorey, one of our other members.
It’s important that councils have councillors who reflect and represent the communities they serve, and also have a broad range of skills and life experience.
My experience of working on many complex infrastructure projects has enabled me to develop the following attributes that will help me if elected in the role: communication skills, problem solving and analytical skills, team working, organisational skills, the ability to engage with the local community including all age ranges, delivering investments to time and in budget, ability to review cost benefit analysis of council investment including rate of return and payback which could provide the council with a return on some of its investments.
Since moving to Cornwall, I have spent most of my time decorating my house and enjoying the beautiful scenery both coastal and inland as well as the incredible wildlife this county has to offer.
I have many interests ranging from nature and wildlife, both watching and photographing, walking, both coastal and inland, beach cleaning on a voluntary basis in my own time, surfing, body boarding and kayaking, cycling, all aspects of repairing and repurposing, I’m learning to play the guitar as well as many other musical instruments, listening to music and attending live music shows and festivals, local politics, environmental impacts, both local, national and global and gardening including growing some of my own food.
I’m passionate about all aspects of the environment and making Bude an even more beautiful place to live.
I’m supporting the Bude-Stratton Community Alliance because the time is right for the residents to have a much-needed say in council decisions. The community needs to play an active part in the direction the town choses in supporting environmentally friendly infrastructure spending, as well as supporting our diverse population both the younger and older generations to make Bude an even more beautiful place to live.
