This is a great annual event raising funds for Bude Sea Pool. Come along and support/cheer the teams along on the day, or why not bake a cake for the valiant swimmers when they finish?
Following the first Charity Channel Challenge in 2013, the Friends of Bude Sea Pool will be hosting the sixth event on Saturday 6th October.
Teams of experienced swimmers of all ages will take the plunge into the Bude Sea Pool from 6 am on Saturday, swimming their chosen distance – a mile or more – in relays.
Their aim is to complete 22 miles in the water to match the width of the English Channel, raising funds for Bude Sea Pool with every stroke.
The teams will swim a total of 440 lengths of the 91m pool. Some teams enter 22 people, but some teams -amazingly – are only 2!
The day starts early at 7 am with the first swimmers setting off in the dark, and the last swimmer in the water is usually around 7 pm. The final participants are likely to complete their swims under spotlights in the early evening.
Teams, both local and from all over the country, not only enjoy the Challenge but also help raise in excess of £2000 annually through sponsorship. All funds raised will contribute towards the cost of the pool’s ongoing upkeep and enhancements.
FoBSP welcomes any offers to help on the day to keep swimmers’ spirits up so if you are able to make a cake or helps to serve tea, coffee and hot chocolate on a rota basis from 9 am to 6 pm please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
