The Bude branch of the Royal Naval Association held its third annual ‘Fun Quiz’ at the Falcon Hotel on Monday 8th April. The event was extremely well supported with well over twenty teams of six taking part. A hundred questions were split into ten sections of ten covering a variety of subjects, with a planned intermission and comfort break halfway through.
A brief welcome from the Social Secretary and MC for the evening was followed by ‘eyes down’ from the Branch Secretary who acted as quizmaster and ‘teller of awful jokes.’ The Branch Chairman took the role of checker, ensuring all answer papers were marked fairly. There were fewer multiple answers than last year and no ‘jokers,’ to make it a tighter competition. Answer papers were collected at the end of each round by members of the branch with the scores being transferred to the huge scoreboard, (which had been extended especially for this event).
The charities supported this year were the same as last year, Cornwall Palliative Care and RNA Bude Branch. Entry was £5.00 per head and each team supplied a generous raffle prize. After the winners prize, (a £60.00 voucher towards a meal at the Falcon), and expenses for table nibbles had been deducted, a profit of £880.00 will be split equally between the two charities. We look forward to presenting CPC with their cheque at our next branch meeting in May.
The RNA Quiz Night is now one of Bude’s popular annual events and will certainly be repeated in April 2020, when we look forward to welcoming you all again. We would urge all RNA branches to follow our example, as an event like this can make such a difference to deserving local charities and your branch.
RNA Bude would like to thank everyone who supported this event and also to congratulate the eventual winning team after an exciting and nerve-wracking tie-break. Well done!
