A report on the most recent match of Bude Ladies FC from Stephen Congdon, for which many thanks:
Bude played newly promoted Bay at home on Sunday 2nd Sept – the match was sponsored by Brooks’ Garden Centre. The visitors attacked Bude from the start and they had to defend well; fortunately, Corrine Anderson was getting stuck in and despite an abundance of pressure, Bude kept them out. On the break, Bude created chances, and new signing Katherine Bryant came close, her shot hitting the bar. Bay pushed again, and a cracking shot from the left hand edge of the box gave the keeper no chance.
0-1 down at half time, Bude needed to up their game but it was Bay who doubled their lead shortly after the break. Bude didn’t lie down and Tegan Nichols and Lizzy Jenkins both had chances, but Bay proved stronger and their dominance on the ball resulted in a third away goal and some essential saves from keeper Lisa Cornish. With just 15 minutes to go, Bude still fought on and with Leanne Stanbury and Bryher Smeeth attacking with urgency, more shots on goal were created.
Top goal scorer Anita Symons pounced one of the rebounds and gave Bude hope at 1-3. With time running out Bude pushed and pushed and spent more time in Bay’s box but no goal
‘Man’ of the match was Leanne Stanbury
A great effort from Bude Ladies FC and the report is appreciated. Any other sports reports please send them our way!
