Bude Heritage Weekend

Well, the weather has changed specially for a weekend of Leopallooza and Heritage.  Let’s hope it is kind!

Saturday 11am-1pm is the Re-enactment.

Commemorating the 375th anniversary of the Battle of Stratton (actually in May this year) The Sealed Knot will perform a full re-enactment. Regiments will muster at The Castle 11 am) before marching across to Summerleaze Downs where the battle will commence (beware of loud noises). Watch the Parliamentarian and Royalists armies do battle, as the events of 16th May 1643 unfold.

This is followed by:

Saturday 1pm-4pm, Castle

Living History Camp. Enjoy a step back in time to the Civil War period and experience life in a military camp. Get involved in weapon demonstrations and dress up in period costume – with a chance to ask questions about life in the 17th century.

 

Sunday

Join Mr Showers for balloon modelling and a walkabout (11 am – 1 pm) and circus workshop (2 pm – 4 pm).

Give it some ‘boing’ with our Bouncy Castle fun, get in a spin at our Vintage Fairground and get a makeover with face painting (11 am – 4 pm).

Take to the canal and try your hand at a traditional Cornish activity – gig rowing, courtesy of the Bude Pilot Gig Club (11 am – 4 pm).

You’ll be wagging your tail at our Dog Show by Bude Methodist Church (11 am entry opens, show running 12.30pm – 2.30pm). Enjoy categories including ‘Best Puppy’, ‘Best Trick’ and ‘Best Fancy Dress.’

Herbalist Linda Moran will be offering free family workshops and herbal walks throughout the day from the marquee on The Castle lawn.

Enjoy a stroll around a variety of community and heritage stalls at The Parkhouse Centre, including a ‘mini green zone’ at The Community Orchard.

There will be a marquee on The Castle lawn housing a range of food, drink, and gift stalls and a pop-up Cafe Limelight selling cream teas.

Get your feet tapping with Redruth’s Carnkie Cloggers (11.30am – 12 noon & 12.30pm – 1pm) and a local Ukulele Band (1.45pm – 2.30pm).

Also, enjoy some ‘Brass on the Grass’ with Bude Metric Brass (3 pm – 4 pm) and mobile guitarist, ‘The Notorious Aiden B’, who will be strumming his tunes throughout the day (11 am – 4 pm).

Hear the fascinating story of life aboard the ship ’The William Tapscott’: Money, Mutiny, Wreck (12 noon – 12.45pm) and Heritage Development Officer, Janine King will be giving a tour of the Heritage Centre (1 pm).
