Bude fire crew help with rescue of man stuck in mud

Adapted from Bude Community Fire Service Facebook page:

Fire Water Rescue Units from Bude Community Fire Station and other stations were tasked this morning to assist Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team in the rescue of a man stuck in mud near Porthilly Cove, Rock, St Minver. Crews from Wadebridge, Bodmin, Bude, St Austell and Falmouth were mobilised.

At the scene, a gentleman was found to be stuck in the mud up to his knees, around 10 metres from the shore.

He was released by fire crews, using an inflatable rescue path, lines and shovels. Rescued, the man was soon safely back on hard ground.

Although this incident is well out of Bude’s local area, as the only Coastguard Mud Rescue Team in Cornwall, the crew will attend any mud or quicksand rescue in the coastal area.

As ever, if you are or see anyone stuck in coastal mud, dial 999 and ask for COASTGUARD.
