On Thursday May 24th three members of Bude Army Cadets, former Cdt. C/Sjt Matthew Cowling, C/Sjt Stuart Baxter, and 2Lt. Ali Harper, attended a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.
Stuart and Ali were there to celebrate Matthew’s achievement in completing his gold award and because their support for the award had been recognised. Addressing Matthew’s group was Prince Edward who engaged brilliantly with both adults and young people. Matthew received his award from Major-General Tyrone Urch and listened to a stimulating talk from former Wasps and Saracens player Ricky Reeves.
The Duke of Edinburgh scheme is an award which enables young people to develop key leadership and teamwork skills. It is widely recognised by employers as providing a positive contribution towards character development. Bude Army Cadets supports this scheme and all cadets are expected to undertake the Bronze award to help develop their character and leadership ability.
If you are interested in the cadet force, either as a young person or an adult volunteer, do get in touch. You can email the detachment commander, Lt Alistair Harper, on 490Harpe@armymail.mod.uk.
