Saw a retained firefighter sprinting across Queen Street towards the fire station yesterday afternoon, as the service was called to reports of a “fire in the open” in Kilkhampton. Bude Fire Service Facebook page says a large attended bonfire was found which had started to spread to the nearby grass area. Using a single hose reel, the fire was reduced in size and the surrounding area dampened down.
Bonfire advice: during these dry periods please consider fire can spread very quickly. Never leave a bonfire unattended and always have an adequate supply of water nearby in case the fire spreads or goes out of control. If you’re planning a controlled burn, please contact Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service Critical Control on 0203 162 2240 to help prevent an unnecessary Fire Engine response. More info here.
