A tradition which appears to go back at least 100 years or more is the Blessing of the Sea. This took place from St Michaels church and down at the lock gates yesterday, Sunday 16th August.
It had a good crowd in attendance with lots of people watching from the other side of the lock gates. It had the lifeboat crew as well as the coastguard, and this year was particularly poignant because it celebrated the life of the former president of the Bude Lifeboat, Desmond Gregory who passed away at the beginning of August. Here a couple of photos:
I was passed on a message that Des died at the beginning of August 2014, not this August. I apologise for the mis-information.
