South West Water’s sewage works, part of their Clean Sweep programme, meant a long concrete pipe snaked across Summerleaze Beach supported on large, elevated rollers which was then cut through the breakwater at its base.

An offshore pontoon, with long-armed diggers prepared a trench to receive it.

Bude was one of the first towns to have this vital environmental work completed in 1992
