Art on the Quay returns

Bideford Quay will once again provide the perfect backdrop for budding artists across the district to display and offer their work for sale in the coming months. The “Art on the Quay” project, now in its second year, is being championed by Torridge District Councillor for Orchard Hill Johnny Langton-Lockton.

The first event will be held to coincide with the Bideford Fair on 30th June with three other dates spread out during July, August and September. The invitation has been extended to anyone with an interest in Art to come along and display for free any original work along Landivisiau Walk at the end of Bideford Quay. The aim is to attract artists from all walks of life and both professional and amateurs alike including any younger artists or school children who want to display their work. With ample parking and only a short walk from other attractions in the town its hoped that the event will make its way into people’s diaries and see an even greater number of sightseers than last year.

Councillor Langton-Lockton said:

“There were really two aims in bringing these events to Bideford, one was to help generate a wider interest in art and local artwork but also to make better use of the fantastic backdrop of the quay and River Torridge. We think this will be a great place to congregate and really hope residents, tourists and artists of all types will flock to the quay for the four dates we’re promoting for this summer. We want to encourage as wide a range of people as possible to take up the opportunity to exhibit their work, and with such a long walkway there should be plenty of space for everyone”

Potential exhibitors are invited to display original work on any of the four dates this summer – 30thJune (Bideford Fair Day), 28-29th July (Bideford’s Big Weekend) , 4-5th August (Music Days) and 1st September (Pride & Diversity Festival). As before the Council are asking Artists to take care not to damage any walls, gardens or other street furniture in putting up their work and to tidy up when they leave.
