There’s another new Principal for the North Devon free school, Route 39, the fourth since it opened in 2013. Acting Principal, David Ray, from South Dartmoor, makes way for a new interim Principal, Cherie White, who will be in position until the end of the school year.
It has been a long period of uncertainty for the children at the school and their parents, following their poor Ofsted inspection in June 2017, which led to the then Principal, Jordan Kelly, resigning. Governors of the school in their newsletter to parents stated that the interim measure is while a MAT (multi-academy trust) is found for the school.
Governors have now appointed Cherie White as Interim Principal. She has extensive successful leadership experience, has worked as an Ofsted inspector and has demonstrated her capacity to drive forward improvement across a number of schools. We have every confidence that she will continue the improvement and develop our shared vision.
Local people are perhaps less certain of the outcome, but we wish Ms White well in her task. Read a recent article on the subject here.
Ms White says in the newsletter:
Dear ParentsHaving visited Route 39 Academy on Friday 26th January, I was very impressed with the welcome I received from the staff team, governors and students. I am aware that there have been many changes over the past months, but in education, change is a constant medium that we need to work through. However, I am sure you will agree that the ultimate goal is for your child to access the best education that can be offered.
I have over 20 years experience in leadership and management, as well as recent experience as an Ofsted inspector. During these years I have provided training, advice and guidance to parents, students, governors and all involved in the life of the school.
During this time, I have had extensive experience in observing teaching and learning outcomes and challenging teachers in their professional ideals and practice. I always aim to provide feedback that is constructive and informative, enabling teachers to share and develop their own practices, with good outcomes for children.
I am a careful thinker, never rushing to make changes without strategic consideration with my teams. I believe strongly in listening to others; the student’s voice being paramount with the child constantly at the heart of everything that we do.
I look forward to working with you and your child to ensure the best outcomes for the future.
