Active Plus – Health Works for Cornwall project is a programme in which we are helping to support unemployed or economically inactive individuals into work, targeting those who have a health-related, and/or other complex barriers into employment.
Active Plus will work with individuals in Newquay, St Columb Major, Bodmin, Launceston, Tintagel and Bude areas of Cornwall between Autumn 2020 and Summer 2023. Working with partners such as the DWP, NHS, GP Surgeries and housing associations we will identify suitable participants to sign onto the programme.
The start of this programme will be a 1 session a week (10am to 12:30pm) confidence and motivation building course – 6 sessions in all. This is beneficial to many people considering the impact of the pandemic and the challenges socially it has caused for people trying to move forward with their lives.
These sessions, delivered by military veterans, will focus on breaking down some of the barriers which can arise from long periods of ill health and unemployment. The sessions are carefully planned with the aim of building teamwork, confidence and communication whilst giving participants the opportunity to recognise their own strengths and attributes. They are delivered in an interactive way which will provide a real change to their next steps, giving them the confidence to engage with others and overcome challenges.
The course covers:
Confidence and motivation building
Building networks with their local communities
Making positive choices
On the programme we can then work with the participants for a total of 12 months offering 1:1 support in helping them get back to employment. We will help with day session workshops covering:
Healthier lifestyle and much much more
