Bude is very lucky to have its own independent cinema (well, Poundstock, I guess). I remember visiting The Rebel many years ago on one of my numerous visits to Cornwall. It was quite a novelty finding a little cinema in the middle of nowhere.
Now, I’m something of a regular, the latest film I saw being the Oscar-winning Korean film, Parasite, which was one of the best films I’ve seen in recent months. The characters are so well painted, there are funny bits and slightly crazy bits in this ‘class divide’ film, plus a great parody scene re North Korea. Don’t let the subtitles put you off. The film is engaging and easy to follow.
When I first moved down here, the Rebel had closed and I was mortified to find there was no cinema, so back in the day, I relied on Bude Community Cinema.
Back to The Rebel: Originally a single-screen cinema, the second screen at The Rebel was added in 2014 (that long ago?) and screen one was refurbished in 2016. Both screens now have Digital 3D projection equipment, the latest surround sound systems and comfy seats. Apparently, more exciting developments are due soon.
You can now get Rebel gift cards, too.
Prices: after 7 pm (all seats £7)
Before 7 pm: adult £7, senior and child (3-14 years) £5.50
