A lively Royal Naval Association meeting

By Bob Gelder:

A lively and very well-attended latest Meeting of the Royal Naval Association Branch took place on 4th November.

Guest Speaker, Rosemary Lee, kindly took members “Up the Amazon” complete with illustrative slides and a very competent and informative narrative.    Rosemary has a wide-ranging knowledge of numerous points on the planet and the Branch looks forward to welcoming her back again with another topic in the Spring of ’22.

It was a real pleasure to welcome 4 “new faces” on the night, who have joined the Branch, bringing with them a wide history. Membership levels have risen to 68 (but there are a few spare chairs for yet more ‘new faces’).
The Branch still requires a replacement Welfare Rep, but the roles of Asst. Social and Standard Bearer (Mob) have been filled.
It was agreed to support Branch widows in December.   A request was made for all members (and their friends/relations) to save all Christmas card postage stamps.   They are collated and submitted to Macmillan Cancer Research to raise vital funds.   Cost to you?   Only a little effort and support!
An advance booking has been made for the R.N.A. “Fun Quiz” on 11th April 2022, teams of 6 per table (£30) + a Raffle Prize donation per table please.   10 rounds of 10 questions, (bring your grey cells and sense of humour please!).
The Branch intends staging a subsidised Christmas Dinner at The Falcon on Saturday, 11th Dec, 19.00 for 20.00.
The Branch welcomed the establishment of a R.M.A. Branch in the Bude area, which launched successfully on 28/10 at The Falcon.   No doubt more news separately.
Bude Branch R.N.A. looks forward to a major attendance on Sunday, 14th November Parade on The Strand (10.30 for 11.00).   Following the silence and address from Shalder Hill, it is the customary march via Strand, to Castle Green/Nanny’s Bridge, and then dismiss.   There is no church service this year due to sensible restrictions.
