The other day I was thinking about some numbers that I’d seen about smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2020. The numbers are actually immense:
- 41 million total for iPhones
19.5 million of those are the new iPhone 11.
And you think that is a lot, because Apple is big right? Add in some more statistics from the other vendors in the Android world:
- 55 million from Samsung
- 43 million from Huawei
- 27 million from Xiaomi
- 24 million from Oppo
- Over 100 million from ‘other’ manufacturers!
These numbers are huge. That’s not the whole thing though, these numbers are actually 20% lower than the first quarter in 2019!
The vast majority of these are made in the Far East and shipped all around the world.
Think about that for a moment.
All those boxes. All that plastic wrap. All that travelling all over the world.
I’m not saying we should stop these purchases, but I hope it makes you consider what goes into that shiny new device that you got a few months ago.
