Bude Coastal Community Team, in partnership with Bude-Stratton Town Council, has been invited to make a full application to the Rural Development Programme for funds to:
widen the existing footpath between Summerleaze (starting at Summerleaze Terrace) and Crooklets (ending at the beach huts at Crooklets) to provide cycle, wheelchair and buggy access.
The purpose of this widening is to:
- allow people to cycle to the Sea Pool and around to Crooklets Beach from town.
- create an additional amenity to attract visitors to Bude and will link with other cycle paths being created by Cornwall Council
- allow people to cycle from Bude to Widemouth on National Cycle Route 3
- be in-keeping with Bude’s growing reputation for environmental action – selling itself as a sustainable holiday destination.
It is hoped that the path will bring economic benefits to Bude by attracting more visitors and further raise the profile of the Sea Pool.
Editor’s view: My own feeling, as someone who regularly walks that route, is that I’d like not to have to navigate bikes, so some segregation of bicycles and people would be a good thing; however, I’d hope for a clear differentiation on the path with pedestrians given the ‘view’ side of the path because that’s the main reason most locals and visitors walk it with several stops to look at the sea.
