2 free tickets for outdoor theatre in Bude

2 x free tickets as a prize for Bude & Beyond readers are available at the forthcoming open air theatre sessions.  Read on for how to win.

After six months of virtually no live arts events in Bude, two professional open air theatre performances have just been confirmed and will now take place at Ebbingford Manor, Vicarage Rd, Bude on Thurs 10th and Sun 20th Sept 2020. With social distancing measures in place, capacity is limited, so open-air theatregoers are advised to book early for these rare live theatre treats for all the family.

On Thursday 10 Sept at 6.30pm the Pantaloons Theatre Company present ‘Sherlock Holmes’. But how can one socially-distanced outdoor show possibly contain so much action and adventure? Elementary, my dear! The critically-acclaimed company put dynamic detective duo Holmes and Watson through their paces as they tackle their most fiendish case yet in this delightfully inventive and hilarious show for all ages featuring live music, (socially distanced) audience interaction and more mystery than you can shake a magnifying glass at. Ideal for all and especially families with children aged 5yrs+.

Then on Sunday 20 Sept at 3pm David Mynne, a Kneehigh Theatre veteran, presents his epic one man version of ‘Great Expectations’, fresh from a sold-out run at the recently reopened Minack Theatre. Some of Charles Dickens’ most memorable characters are vividly brought to life in this anarchic and joyful telling of this glorious tale described as ‘hugely entertaining’ by The Times. Be prepared to be scared and amazed, to cry and laugh! Using Dickens’ original text (well, mostly!) David Mynne’s skilful, one-man performance of this epic story is deft, daft, delightful …and definitely Dickens! The show is suitable for adults and accompanied children over 10yrs.

Both plays last 80 minutes with no interval. Tickets are not available on the door but can be bought in advance, either from The Seventh Wave Gallery, Bude or via wegottickets online (search ‘Ebbingford’). Tickets are £12 Adult, £10 per person for families (parent/s with child/children under 18yrs) and £10 for Key Workers (NHS etc). The links to online sales are:

This event is being promoted by Bude Youth Theatre, thanks to the support of Jon & Gina at Ebbingford Manor.

Audiences are invited to arrive from one hour before the show starts and to bring low back seating, blankets, their own refreshments, suitable clothing and sunblock! Family groups will be seated in their own bubble on the lawn.

There will be a hands-free cash raffle to raise funds for ‘Connect Bude’, the group that is campaigning to reconnect Bude and Holsworthy to the National Rail Network.
